Overview
This comprehensive tour combines beautiful scenery and with special attention to the BBC drama series ‘Shetland’ sites for the fans. We will see the homes of fictional detective Jimmy Perez and Ruth Calder and many other familiar places from the series. To start, your guide Anita takes you on a drive around Lerwick town highlights, before heading out to the countryside. We drive north through the central and west mainland of Shetland to visit ‘The Original Cake Fridge’ and many of the filming locations. We then head North to the rugged Atlantic coast and cliffs with a lunch stop at the famous Frankie’s Fish & Chip Shop on the way back. After lunch we head to the South Mainland to the beautiful St. Ninian’s Isle.
First of all, your guide will take you on a short informative drive around the town of Lerwick stopping at The Jimmy Perez house and the court and police station. Then we head out the south road to see the Tingwall Church and manse which featured from series 8 and on.
The tour then takes west through the villages of Whiteness and Weisdale were many scenes were filmed . DI Ruth Calders new home can been seen here. We continue to ‘The Original Cake Fridge’. A cake fridge is roadside store full of delicious homebakes operating on an honesty box principle, and although the BBC drama series ‘Shetland’ would have you believe otherwise, Shetland is a low crime area where these honesty boxes can operate undisturbed. where we can pick up takeaway homebakes and coffee. Onwards through the scenic road from Voe to Aith taking in the beauty of the wild Shetland landscape along the way.
We head north now to the rugged clifftops at Eshaness and stop along the way to see Magnus Bain’s house from the ‘Raven Black’ episode.
A lunch stop at the award winning Frankie’s Fish & Chip Shop in Brae is next, where you can sample local produce.
After lunch we head to the South Mainland to see the Bain family home from the series which overlooks the beautiful St. Ninians Isle. We will pass by Rerwick seal beach before heading back to Lerwick
